In short: WordPress is very safe, as long as you take the risks of the internet into account. Exactly as is the case for almost all other content management systems such as Drupal or TYPO3.

WordPress for large projects

Content management systems today are very similar in look and feel and way of thinking. Features appear to be structurally user-friendliness, flexibility and security. This also applies to WordPress, of course, but its distinctiveness is (also) in its scalability.

WordPress is not (only) for individual sites, the CMS is especially interesting for large projects. This is partly because it offers the possibility to separate content and tools from data. In fact, this ensures that your content – such as a piece of text, product information, an image – is placed in a database, after which CIO & CTO Email List another application can use it. An architecture that fits seamlessly with the government’s new Common Ground architecture. Think, for example, of applying for a passport, permit or reporting relocations. Things that are the same for every municipality, but that need to be adapted (partly locally). The products and services can be read by every municipality that participates in the OWC via an API.

Individual Sites

The Open Web Concept (OWC) is a good example of this. This initiative is intended to provide better and cheaper digital services for municipalities by making use of each other’s knowledge and code. The OWC has a library where complete digital solutions for municipalities can be found.

An example of a commonly used component is the Open Products and Services Catalog (OpenPDC). This is a database in which all products and services of a municipality are stored. Think, for example, of applying for a passport, permit or reporting relocations. Things that are the same for every municipality, but that need to be adapted (partly locally). The products and services can be read by every municipality that participates in the OWC via an API.
