Gnuside is a company specializing in software and electronics development in free computing. Gnuside acts on all stages of project realization, from the design to the development of information systems, until their evolution towards free software. So we asked Glenn a few questions to learn more about free technology and Gnuside .
1 / How do you define Open Source entrepreneurship and free technologies?
“Free is a question of use, sharing of knowledge and contribution. Open source entrepreneurship is smart entrepreneurship. Being transparent and working together helps determine good practices, good methods and good technologies. Open source inspires everyone to become better. Alone we go faster but together we go further. Open Source entrepreneurship makes it possible to reconcile the two aspects of this proverb, together we go faster and further.
For the customer, the advantage of open source technology is that it is adaptable faster. You can reuse existing components without needing to redevelop everything. This leads to a reduction in costs. We can also pool development costs, if two clients want to create an online catalog, only the content and style will be different but not the underlying technology. Each company then pays only 50% of the development. ”
How Does Gnuside Fit Into Your Definition Of Open Source?
“The values of open source are embedded in each of the founders of Gnuside. This is also something that we have written in the articles of association of the company. Our developments aim to be liberated. ” “Twelve years ago, I met my current associates in front of a physics room at college. At the time, we wanted to create a video game but we never did. We studied together and we diverged towards our jobs. After a while, we realized that we still wanted to work together and that there were lots of interesting things to do. ”
“Today, there are a lot of SMEs. The interest of SMEs is that they are energetic companies, full of crazy ideas that want to change the world but they lack the means. Conversely, the large companies with which we are trying to deal today have a greater inertia with innovation plans over several years. But by the time the project is completed, we no longer do innovation. The question we are asking ourselves today is how can we reconcile the two to achieve a balance and provide everyone with an experience from the other world. That is to say, surrounding small businesses with more industrial practices, and allowing large businesses to be more agile, more responsive to innovation. “
