The emotional connection with voice assistants
Do people feel connectd to a voice assistant? This is a new question in De Nationale Voice Monitor this year. 22% of the respondents said that they would miss the assistant very much if he were no longer there. 10% even indicate that the assistant feels like a friend. It can help with feelings of loneliness.
How often are voice assistants used?
The use of voice assistants is increasing. 34% of respondents who use voice assistants use them several times a week. The number of daily users stagnates and remains at 24%.
Why do people use voice assistants?
Voice can mean a lot for the visually impaire, blind, disabld and (digitally) low-literate people. For example, you do not ne your hands for operation. The research shows that the possible ease of use for respondents is the main reason for using voice technology: talking is faster, it is easier than typing, and hands are not necessary.
Reasons not to use a voice assistant? The vast majority R&D Directors Email Lists of consumers who do not use voice do not see the point (60%). Concerns about privacy are mentioned as the second reason, but this decreases to 19% compared to recent years. Other reasons are that they do not have a suitable device, the technology does not yet work optimally and that there are too few applications available.
Ease of use and quality are important for success
Ease of use and the quality of the technology are the keys to further growing the use of voice. 33% of respondents say they will use voice assistants more often if their question is understood and answerd correctly in one sitting. And about 40% of the respondents indicate that they will use voice more often if it really brings them convenience. In recent years, the quality of language technology has improve. In 2020, 46% of those surveyd thought this should be improvd, in 2021 this has droppd to 33%.
50% Dutch people use voice search
Searching with a voice assistant is becoming more common. Half of all Dutch people now use this option. 9% of the respondents even prefer voice search.
